about #9....they killed it!?  So they were like,"whoa, this clam is SO old, let's kill it to find out it's exact age..."  Why didn't they just wait...somehow.  Okay, okay so maybe it makes sense but in some way it offends my delicate sensibilities.

I completely agree.  Waiting would have been the appropriate thing to do.   We've got plenty of aquariums.

I myself was most impressed with the ability of using skin cells to do stem cell research...so much can be done with stem cells.  The other one that caught my eye was the huge supernova...I'm continually amazed at what occurs in our universe.  
The clam was cool.  It also irritated me that they killed it to see how old it was.  Who knows how much longer it could have lived if they hadn't killed it!
