I'm not sure if I sent this to you guys or not...this is the main information that Sally sent to me: ExploraDome physical requirements Dome arrival: 1½ hours prior to first presentation of the day, or the day before if the schedule permits. A 4 wheel flat bed cart and 2-3 people are needed to unload and wheel it from the van to its location - it is heavy. It does not fit through a standard door frame, so double door access may be needed. Contact me for options if you think this may be a problem. Dome departure: 2-3 people needed to close down at the end of the last day. Older students may assist. Dome dimensions: 14 feet high and 25 feet in diameter Electrical requirements: We draw about 21amps of power. If the outlet is 20 amps, we may need to run extension cords to two outlets on separate circuits. Other electrical devices should not be used on the same circuits or we could blow the fuse and the dome would deflate. Flooring: The dome has no floor. We recommend setting up on carpet or gym/wrestling mats so the students can comfortably lie down. We have chairs for teachers and other adults. Fans: It can get warm inside the dome, even in an air conditioned room, so a fan is helpful to keep the circulation during and between presentations. This may not be necessary in the winter. Room lights: If possible, we would like to set up in a room where we can turn off the lights during a presentation, giving us the option to keep the dome open and at a more comfortable temperature. If that is not possible, we have curtains to keep the light out. Accessibility: The ExploraDome is wheelchair accessible. Internet: If your school provides wireless internet, we can access Earth satellite data to include in the programming. Earth science shows require internet access; it is an enhancement to all other shows but not necessary. Media: We invite you to contact the local press that serves your school district and invite them to witness the ExploraDome program. Please contact me by phone or email 1 week prior to the visit with the following information: 1. Arrival details • What time (preferably 1 ½ hours prior to first presentation) • Contact person and location to check in (front office, etc.) • Location to unload dome from van; confirm we have 2-3 additional people to help 2. Schedule for the day • Schedule of presentations, with beginning and ending times of each. A minimum of 5 minutes is requred between each presentation. • Be sure to include a lunch break, minimum 30 minutes • Schedule for evening event, if reserved • Programming requests and grade(s) served (see attached program descrïptions) 3. Other • Name and affiliation of media you have invited to cover the event, if any • Instructions for wireless internet access if incorporated into the shows |

About concessions...I bet Tara Martinez would know...I can ask her through e-mail. It looks like we'll need 2-3 people to do set-up and take down. We can find volunteers to do that later. Let's decide on the programs on the 1st at the Officer's Meeting. They don't need our final decisions until a week beforehand so we're lucky on that one! We should talk to the current Astronomy professor FOR SURE! I don't think the Exploradome people need our help, but I do think it would be helpful for someone from the Science Club, preferably someone more involved than just showing up for meetings, there to answer questions about what we do! Um.....more later. --Jenny |

maybe we should refrain from asking tera about stuff until we get the money. I wouldn't want to sound like we expect the money or something. Student Senate is a bit weird, and that might set off some unfortunate sentiments towards the club. We should also have as many science club members show up as possible at the student senate meeting to show support. |

as far as the other questions I can help set up and take down. It also sounds like they would do a night show. We should look into that as the SLBC was asking about that. It might require more money. Tanya has stated and I agree that we are using a hybrid system of show times and first come first serve. With 5 minutes between 15 minute shows and assuming a normal day with a 30 minute break we can fit in about 23 shows. We can give a nod perhaps to the astronomy prof and give him one. Then we should maybe reserve 3 for ourselves with science club members getting first dibs. Assuming these three don't fill up with science club members we then place sign up sheets out for the rest of the school. This gives us 19 first come first served shows which I think is a lot. If science club members do fill up the shows then we must reserve a couple more for students. I think it is important not to reserve to many show times because it may be more open to the general student body if we have more fcfs (first come first served) shows. As far as which shows to do I am absolutely fascinated with the too the edge of the universe show. let me know what you think. |

When I talked to Sally, she said that staying into the evening would be fine. Thanks for breaking it down, Bryan. I knew it had to be done, but I was procrastinating in hopes that someone else would do it. With the number of shows are able to have, I think we should have at least 1/4 reserved by sign up...I don't want this to be a bust. Should we have a sign up sheet at the next science club meeting? We'll know by then whether we received the money or not. |

I'm pretty sure we just need to ask Tara for the popcorn machine. We can get one of those 10 gallon deals full of kool-aid resembling substance from the cafeteria vendor too. I'll check on that when I'm learning about the nuances of the requisition form on tuesday. I might be able to help with tear down, and I'll definitely help post flyers. Remind me to get some tacks this time... I propose just a couple reserved shows, but have 5 or so reserved seats for every regular show. This way really -Benj. --Last edited by Benjamin on 2008-01-20 01:42:31 -- |

One more Idea - If we give them an hour lunch, or offer two half hours or something, they might be happier staying later. Tanya, the dome is very attention getting and will probably have a line like Pizza With the President... It shouldn't be a bust. |

I spoke with Parke Kunkle today about getting things set for the Exploradome. The major thing that he wanted to let us know is that if for some reason the funds aren't approved by the Student Senate, there is a good chance that the funds could be provided by the Astronomy Department. So, if we don't get the money, there is a shot at the Exploradome coming to MCTC anyway. Also, he is going to try to attend (if everything goes through for the 20th of February), but it all depends on the health of his mother...at this point he is unable to plan ahead for anything. |

Somewhere along the line someone had mentioned taking the planetarium people out to lunch. I'm not sure how this would work. Also, from what Sally said, it is just her and someone else (plus those of us who are going to help out...or just be around to get people interested in science club). And she would probably stay through lunch. Hmm... |

I would like to make a small correction Tanya made and typed the proposal plus did the presentation. I think she deserves any accolades. I would also at this time like to point out a couple of other details We should look into the aquisition of wrestling mats We need to locate a proper power supply for dome We should designate the front of MCTC along E Hennepin in front of the tech building our official drop off point. I will be there at 7 we should get two others there as well. I will contact people who dont seem to be up to there eyeballs in much of anything. I believe the more the merrier though. A scheduled lunch break is required I just saw it. A document with all Sally's request per Tanya's earlier post is needed. It will have this stuff and additional info. The main thing I think we need is the schedule and shows we want. |

I thank and smile affecionately at Tanya on a regular basis....I know that I am not many but I hope that between you and I and Kirk she feels appreciated. Do you? And do you Bryan....because Tanya and I have had more than one conversation about your wonderful participation and how great it is. And I definitely get thanked and feel supported by the two of you, Kirk, and the regular attendees.... I like this "check-in" though....it's good. --Jenny the warm fuzzy. |

I think Kirk knew something about a power supply... |

I very much feel that I'm appreciated, so no worries there. I appreciate all the officers who are involved in the science club. I HOPE YOU ALL KNOW THAT!!! And Kirk of course...he's not an officer, but as the advisor we couldn't "be" without him. |
